Personal Statement

The following statements are not representative of the entire SneezyMUD Admin board, but are mine alone.

• SneezyMUD is a game that is and has been for some time a work in progress. As such, changes are often made by the immortal staff in an effort to improve or expand the game.
• As a player, your participation and feedback are my only rewards for the literally countless hours of what can be very boring and tedious work of building, creating/running quests, writing and maintaining the website(s), adding or editing documentation or promoting/marketing the MUD.
• I have a responsibility to the game and to the players to maintain balance.
• Though I am labeled a "god," I am fallible and I do not always do it right the first time.
• I hope for and appreciate a certain level of good sportsmanship, patience and flexibility from the players. It is with that in mind I donate my time.
• It is never my intent to make the game less fun for players.

With those statements in mind, it is politely requested that when communicating your feedback you assume positive intent on the immortal staff's part. What does assuming positive intent mean? When thinking about an action someone takes, assuming positive intent means assuming they did it for good reasons. Disagreeing with the action is fine, but communicating the disagreement should include the attitude that you fully expect the person was trying to do right. Helpful feedback that assumes positive intent would not include accusations of malevolence or any ad hominem attacks. Helpful feedback is detailed, factual and contains relevant examples.

None of the staff agreed to volunteer their time with the intent to prevent players from having a good time. In fact, quite the opposite is true. Keep the second bullet point in mind; our only reward is your participation and feedback, so based on that experience, we are either motivated or demoralized. If your disagreements are communicated politely, respectfully and with kindness, our response will be so much more favorable! The less time we have to spend trying to convince folks we're not trying to ruin your good time, the more time we can spend actually directly responding to your concerns.

All those things said, I very much enjoy contributing to this mud and your enjoyment of the game is mine. What makes it all worthwhile for me is when you are enjoying yourselves.

I'm not entirely sure how much work the players realize you put into this on a daily basis, it's truly astonishing. You have my sincerest appreciation and gratitude. None of us are perfect, but I know your intentions are good and you do a fabulous job.
