What kind of information does the wiki need?
The wiki could use anything you've got! But to narrow it down a bit, consider adding information relating to these subjects:
- New user help
- Information about quests, both in-game and immortal-run
- Describe the world!
- Describe items
- Give information on playing our classes with style
- Describe and explain our skills
- Describe and explain our spells
- Describe and explain our prayers
- Give tips and tricks on advanced playing techniques
What information is the highest priority?
While all information is very valuable to the wiki and we value anything and everything you'd like to contribute, if you're having trouble picking out something to talk about, new user help is most appreciated.
While writing articles meant for a new user, think like this:
- What is the concept you're trying to explain? Define it clearly.
- Why is what you're explaining important?
- How exactly does it work?
For example, if you're writing an article on grouping, ask yourself, "What is grouping?" "Why would you want to group?" "How do you group?"
You would explain that grouping is a method for multiple players to join forces in a somewhat organized fashion. Grouping allows the players to split experience points, money and items, while giving the group the benefit of easy intra-group communication (via gtell) and group members' status (the "group" command gives each players' current status including hit points, mana/piety/lifeforce and how rested they are). To group, the members follow their group leader, and the group leader groups the followers. Handy oft-used group commands are "group" and "gtell," used to show status of the group and speak to the group members, respectively.
Use wiki technology to your advantage by taking the opportunity to link certain words to their associated help files. If you feel there are concepts that need to be understood before a reader can understand your article, link to their help file, or even a non-existing article with the name of the concept you want to explain. You can create a link to a non-existing article anytime by simply creating the link. The link will show up red if there's no current article by that name. This will also trigger this article to appear in the wanted pages page, so someone else may fill out this article for you, or if you forget, you can return to the wanted pages and find your wanted page again.
Write any new user articles for a person who has never played a MUD before. Assume this is the first MUD they've ever played on. Linking to other resources or taking the time to fully explain a concept can go a long ways towards keeping our newbies happy and excited to learn and play.
